Konopiste is placed about 45 km south-east of Prague. It was built in the 13th century, but is mostly known, because it was the last residence of Franz Ferdinand d'Este, the successor of the Habsburg throne. He was murdered in Sarajevo in 1914, which started World War I.

We walk from the parking lot a little bit up hill through the beautiful nature to the castle.

In the castle interior there are large collections of different kinds. We can observe the residential rooms of the family, big exhibitions of art, statues and paintings as well as one of the world's biggest collections of historical weapons. There is an extensive, thematic collection of St. George.

You will also have the opportunity to take a stroll in the beautiful castle gardens, visiting the bear pit and the peacocks.

At last we will enjoy a nice lunch in a hunting restaurant close to the castle.
