Vysehrad and casamates

2 hours | Tour

The castle ruins Vysehrad, the National Cemetery and the Catacombs.

We take the metro to Vysehrad, which is a beautiful park area with many different sights.

Vysehrad Castle was built in the 10th century, but today only ruins remain. Formerly, according to legend, Princess Libuse lived there. She had prophetic abilities and foretold the great future of the city, just as she allegedly named the city.

Well arrived we first go to the viewpoint where we look out over the river Vltava and we can also see Prague Castle. Then we go to St. Peter and St. Paul's Basilica from the 1000s. The interior of the church is really worth a visit.

Next to it is the National Cemetery, where almost all the famous Czech personalities are buried, including the two greatest composers, Smetana and Dvoƙak. We also tell about three prominent people in Czech history who, for various reasons, have been laid to rest elsewhere. We end the visit by descending into the 330 m2 catacombs under the castle ruins.

In the past, the room was used as a meeting place for the army, just as it has been a warehouse for food and ammunition. Today, six of Karlsbroen's original statues are stored there. The room is also used for exhibitions and exclusive test performances.
